Now, more music is being sent to streaming platforms than ever. With the rapid growth of AI platforms, more and more people are able to create music, which means there’s a boom in music distribution.
With AI tools on the rise, many people who had never considered a career in music are now turning to platforms to help them create their own tracks. More and more AI based songs are being sent to streaming platforms. While many platforms aren’t allowing this type of content to be published, sometimes things fall through the cracks.
There are also still a lot of platforms who will allow this type of music to be uploaded, and therefore streaming sites are seeing so many more tracks being delivered to their services. In amongst all the AI inspired sounds, there’s a lot of white noise being shared. Many argue white noise doesn’t deserve a space on these platforms.
Within the first quarter of 2023, there have been on average 120,000 ISRCS added to streaming platforms each day. An ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is a unique number given to each track. Every track requires its own label to separate it from the rest. Within an album, each track will still have its own code.
That means there are 120,000 tracks being uploaded to streaming services every single day. This of course is only the first portion of the year. These numbers could go up or down as the year progresses. Within Q1, 10.08 million tracks were uploaded to streaming services. By the end of 2023, we could expect to have seen 43 million new tracks added.
In 2022, these numbers were much lower. Still high, but they sat at 93,400 which means there has been a huge spike already within 2023. By the end of 2022, the amount of tracks uploaded across the world had risen by 12% compared to the previous year. It will be interesting to see what this year ends on because it’s likely to be a much higher jump.
