Did you know, you don’t need a TikTok account to view videos? TikTok allows you to browse as a guest, however, there are restrictions. You’ll need to create an account for the full experience.
TikTok realised that not everyone wants an account. Now, that might sound like a bad thing business wise, but actually, they’ve played it in their favour. Unlike other platforms, TikTok have said they’re ok with sharing content without the need for their own personal growth.
This in turn has opened their videos up for a lot more views. Users can share the content they’ve made with all their friends. Who, in turn, can watch it and share it. However, the only drawback is, they cannot comment or like the videos. This is through Browse as guest.
The option is brilliant for anyone who wants to view the abundance of videos their friends send without having to create an account. We all have that one friend that describes their life through relatable and funny video content. But, do you really want another social account?
Especially, if all you’re using it for is to watch the videos sent to you from time to time. If you’re looking to interact with creators, or watch content regularly, then you will need to sign up to TikTok. However, a quick little browse? No need!
How to browse as a guest on TikTok
When trying to view TikTok videos, you’ll see a pop-up prompting you to log in or sign up. You can instead click Browse as guest. This will allow you to watch videos, and TikTok will even try and customise a For You Page to give you a personalised view.
This gives you a glimpse into how the platform operates if you decide to sign up. However, remember that the FYP won’t be completely accurate due to the algorithm not having a chance to learn your likes and dislikes. You will, however, have access to your guest data.
If at any stage you want it deleting, you can request this. This helps those who are concerned about allowing social platforms access to their personal data feel at ease. At any time, you can upgrade to a TikTok account of your own if this is something you’d like.
Guests on TikTok cannot:
- Create a TikTok profile (you will need to sign up)
- Post a video to TikTok
- Interact via liking, commenting, or saving videos.
