Spotify are introducing a balance between podcasters and listeners. They’re adding a comments section, so the audience can get involved with the conversations, just like they would on YouTube.
Spotify is making it easier than ever for podcasters and their listeners to connect. They’re launching a comment section which will allow users to leave reviews, opinions and chitchat within a section next to the podcast episode.
The new comment section can be found by scrolling past the play controls. Once a user has finished listening to the episode, they can also head to the episode page, and they’ll be able to leave a message for the podcaster to read.
When first launched, every podcaster will be able to control their own comments section. By default, all posts will be private, and it’s up to the creator whether they want to allow comments to appear on their page or not.
Any comments shared can be published or unpublished by the creator at any time. So, if you want to stop comments getting out of hand, you can change your settings at any stage. Comments can be prevented on all episodes, or just specific ones.
Spotify podcasters have control over comments
The control is completely in the creator’s hands, so there is less chance of negative comments or anything being said which could potentially be dangerous. Other platforms don’t have these strict requirements, so it’s good Spotify are ahead of the game.
Podcasters can oversee comments as they’ll have access to the updated Spotify for Podcasters app. Those who host their podcast through Spotify directly will be able to access this tool straight away. Whereas, those who don’t will need to claim their show first.
This claim can be done through the app. Each time a creator receives a comment, they will be notified. Likewise, they will be informed when shows reach milestones. All creators will be able to access analytics and insights through the podcasting app.
Spotify have said listeners who get involved with polls or Q&As are four times more likely to return to a show within 30 days. So, it’s a good idea for creators to allow these features on their podcast, if they want the chance of growing an audience who are engaged.
The streaming platform has said they have more plans set to release in the Autumn time. Until then, we can expect to see a lot of grow in the podcast world. When fall comes around, we should see the comments experience improve.
