Spotify have changed their recent updates, making their lyrics feature free again. As recently as May 2024, Spotify removed lyrics from free accounts.
Previously this year, Spotify removed their lyrics feature from all free accounts. They placed a paywall in front of it, which meant users would need to upgrade their account in order to access a feature they had previously been able to use.
This was in efforts to encourage users to upgrade. However, it seems to have backfired, as Spotify have since had nothing but complaints. Since receiving numerous reports of users being unhappy with the decision, Spotify has decided to expand the monthly limit.
Now, users will be able to see lyrics once again. This change has been made worldwide. However, the amount of lyrics is not unlimited. Spotify have placed a cap on free users seeing lyrics, but haven’t stated how many songs they will be able to access lyrics for.
“At Spotify, we’re always testing and iterating. This means the availability of our features can vary across tiers and between markets and devices. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding lyrics availability for Spotify Free users”, as said by a Spotify spokesperson.
While Spotify has declined to share the number of lyrics users can see each month, it’s imagined it will be more than previously available. Spotify were going to cap the limit at 3 songs before users fired back their opinions.
This would mean, after singing along to 3 songs, your lyric view would be taken away. Thankfully, this is no longer the case, and users will be able to continue to enjoy their favourite artists tracks. Knowing, they can confidently sing word-for-word.
