TikTok Music will be no longer. The platform will come to an end on the 28th November, with subscriptions no longer being accessible. This will come into effect for users worldwide.
It seems Spotify is safe. TikTok are no longer interested in taking their users. That’s because TikTok Music will be no more as of the 28th November. The viral video platform has confirmed this as of today, 24th September 2024. TikTok Music will cease to exist in all regions.
Currently, it’s available in Indonesia, Australia, Brazil, Singapore and Mexico. So, it didn’t quite hit global takeover. However, those who are currently subscribed will have to now find an alternative music provider. TikTok have said they are focusing their resources elsewhere.
More focus will be put on their Add To Music App feature. This feature allows users to save music they find on TikTok to their streaming store of choice. They work with a variety of music platforms. It’s been suggested this is part of the reason they are closing their music platform.
Instead of creating their own rival, it seems TikTok are choosing to work with Spotify and Apple Music to drive music listeners to these platforms instead. Working with them rather than against them could prove in TikTok’s favour.
TikTok Music ends, so TikTok can work with Spotify
Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at TikTok, said, “Our Add to Music App feature has already enabled hundreds of millions of track saves to playlists on partner music streaming services.” This suggests he wants to continue with these partnerships.
“We will be closing TikTok Music at the end of November in order to focus on our goal of furthering TikTok’s role in driving even greater music listening and value on music streaming services, for the benefit of artists, songwriters and the industry.”
It’s a shame as TikTok Music only launched last year in multiple regions. It came about as we saw the end of Resso, a music subscription platform owned also by TikTok owners, ByteDance. It wouldn’t be surprising if the removal of Universal Music from TikTok damaged the idea.
After all, until the two parties became friends again, there was a lot of controversy in the air and TikTok users were missing out on popular songs licensed through the music company. No doubt, this lead to the decline of users on the TikTok Music app.
