Spotify recently launched a beta AI feature allowing users to create personalised playlists. This feature has been tested and now introduced in four new markets.
Spotify are looking to increase their premium users and one way of doing this was to bring in AI. Of course, we are aware AI has taken over, there is no denying it. Every platform has had to get on board with the sudden surge of the reliance on AI.
The music streaming store are no different. Recently they introduced a beta version of their playlist AI feature. It was being tested within the UK, and Australia in April. Now that Spotify feel they have enough feedback, they have introduced it to other markets.
Users in the US, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand will now be able to try it out. The feature enables users to have more control over their playlists. They can input text prompts, and the AI feature will create a playlist that matches their mood and preferences.
Unfortunately, at this current stage, the AI tool cannot create playlists based off world events, or outside influences. It can only deal with music-related prompts due to still being in earlier stages of development. This expansion will see Spotify have tools its competition doesn’t.
Currently, Apple Music and Amazon Music are working on ideas to increase their subscription market. However, they can’t seem to compete with Spotify who are forever finding new angles and keeping ahead of the times with things like Daylist and AI DJ.
Only time will tell if this feature is going to make it or break it. After all, it wouldn’t be the first feature Spotify have had to pull due to it not being successful. But, that is what makes Spotify stand out as superior. They’re not afraid to make bold moves which might not pay off.
