You might have already read our article about what TikTok’s algorithm favours. If not, go read it, we promise it’s worthwhile. Following on from this we wanted to provide you with some tips and tricks as to how you can get the algorithm to work with you rather than against you.
We don’t want you ending up like the GIF above, so we’re here to help avoid that. Let’s break down exactly what you can do to get the algorithm on your side. If the algorithm is on your side, you have more of a chance of getting your content seen. Let’s face it, that’s why you create content, right? Hopefully we can help you grow your account even further and get those TikTok videos seen by a larger audience.
Become a Pro
Switch your account to Pro and in turn, your content should follow. TikTok offers two different types of their upgraded accounts, depending on if you’re a business or creator. Switching your account to TikTok Pro won’t automatically make your videos viral, however it is an important part of cracking the code.
TikTok Pro accounts give you access to insights and statistics which can help guide you through the trials and errors you’ll make along the way. You’ll get to understand who your audience are and what they’re interested in. When you learn the times they’re most likely online, you will be able to plan your videos around this.
To upgrade your account simply follow the instructions below:
- Tap the 3 dots in the top-right hand corner of your profile.
- Click Manage account.
- Select Switch to Business Account and decide which option suits you.
Make sure you’re on trend
TikTok is forever changing. What might be current one week, possibly won’t be the next. This is important to know because you shouldn’t hang around. You need to keep on top of trends and make sure you’re active. Make sure you grab your audience’s attention. The more people interacting with your content, the more chance you have of being featured on TikTok’s For You Page.
Keep updated by watching various TikToks by other creatives within your field. Take a look at the people who are following you and the other accounts they follow. This could either spark some ideas for you or show you what trends are current. Don’t forget TikTok are great for showing trending themes and hashtags. All you need to do is head to the search function, and you’ll see all the latest hypes.
Keep your captions engaging
TikTok allow 150 characters per video caption. Make sure they are worth it though because there’s no point filling that space with a caption that isn’t interesting or engaging. You should tell your viewers why they should watch your video, rather than filling them with an overload of information. Perhaps sum up the video so they know what to expect.
It’s also the perfect place to write a question. This could then lead to future videos. You might ask a question that relates to the video you’ve uploaded and then leave the comments section as a space for people to interact with what you’ve said. Then you can create another video further down the line responding to the comments to your question. See how it all loops back to your caption?
Engage with other creators
It’s important you give as much as you receive. If not more. Make sure you’re commenting on other creatives videos. Let them know you appreciate their work and provide them with feedback. In return, they made do the same to you. It could eventually lead to a relationship being formed, and you may even end up with collaboration opportunities. Even if this isn’t the case, their followers are likely to see your name reappearing, and you may get suggested as an account they’d like to see.
TikTok have said that 21% of their users feel more connected to brands that comment on other users posts. That’s a large number of users who have this opinion. So, it could be crucial to you appearing on various accounts and mastering the algorithm. TikTok users are likely to interact with you and view your content if they see you interacting with accounts they already follow.
These are just a few ways you can crack the algorithm and get it on side. With TikTok being an ever-growing platform, it’s important to try and find your place within the app as soon as possible. It will take trial and error to figure it out, however practise makes perfect. The way to grow is by getting started. Get involved with others on the platform and learn from the experts. Eventually you’ll start to create your own flow and your audience will shape around this.
