Tidal have added a new feature which allows users to act as a DJ and host sessions which their friends can join. However, all listeners will need to pay to subscribe to Tidal before they can join in.
Tidal have added a new feature allowing users to become the DJ for their friends and family. Users are able to choose songs for multiple people, and be in control of the track list. This feature is available for both HiFi and HiFi Plus subscribers – $9.99 and $19.99 per month respectively.
Unlike Spotify Sessions where all parties can change the songs or alter the track queue, with Tidal only one person has control over the music. This is where you get to act like a real DJ. Sure, you could take requests, but at the end of the day, you’re in control. It puts you in charge of picking the best tracks your friends will love.
Create a session while listening to a song or playlist. Simply press the Live button which is located in the top-right corner. You can name the session and share the link with your friends. They can then click on the link and start listening in to your chosen DJ set. However, they’ll have to have a paid Tidal account to do so.
If they don’t have a paid Tidal account, the streaming platform will require them to sign up for a free trial. Whoever starts the session will have the control. The music they’re listening to will become part of that session. However, they can edit the playlist, or track list to suit their friends preferences.
This new feature is good news for artists, because each listen counts as a stream. If you have 10 friends listening to your DJ session, that’s 10 streams the track gets. It’s a great idea for friends across the country to get together without being together. However, there is a catch. You can only listen with friends in your registered country.
This means, you can’t join in a session your friend from across the globe has set up. Hopefully, they’ll make changes to this at some point because it’s a shame friends can’t connect from different areas in the world. But, in Tidal’s defence, this is a very new feature, so we can expect to see some changes eventually.
