It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and it just gets better and better thanks to our pals over at Spotify. The world’s biggest streaming store just love to bring gifts to their users. Whether you’re a fan of Spotify Wrapped or if you think it’s cringe, you can’t deny you have to check who your most played artists are. It becomes slightly addictive. We all just need to know. Have our guilty pleasures broken through to our stats? Are you a loud and proud sharer? Or are you a “I’m way too cool for this” but secretly lives for it user?
What is Spotify Wrapped?
If you don’t know, then where have you been all these years? Spotify Wrapped is one of the best loved features of the streaming store. Each year the streaming giants round up their user’s most played artists and tracks and place them into a summary. You get to see who has been played the most throughout the previous year. What type of genres you clearly prefer, and you’ll see your habits when it comes to music.
It causes a storm every single year. Some people love it and some hate it. You could call Spotify Wrapped the marmite of the music world. While some people wait all year for it and rush to share it all over their social media accounts, you’ll also find others have something negative to say about this. Usually along the lines of “no one cares about your Spotify Wrapped”. We do, I promise.
The gift that keeps on giving
I bet you’ll even find the ones who think they’re too cool for Spotify Wrapped checking their account just out of curiosity. Be loud and proud about it though. Show it off like it’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received. You listen to those artists for a reason, why be ashamed about it? We love it. It’s always fun to see those artists pop out of the woodwork. You know the ones you’d have never seen coming? I swear I haven’t listened to them that much… Well, it turns out you have.
Not only will you be able to see your favourite artists, but you’ll also get to see what podcasts you’ve been loving. It will show you your favourite genres and how many minutes you’ve spent listening to music on the app. *Big gulp* That one could be a shocker. I really spend that long on Spotify? This year we’re expected to see some bigger artists sharing videos thanking their fans for listening to them throughout the year.
How to access Spotify Wrapped
You’ll need to be a Spotify user (obviously) and this year it can only be accessed via the app. Sorry to all you desktop lovers out there. It looks like you’ll have to download Spotify to your phone if you want to join in the fun. This will be available on both IOS and Android though. Honestly the process is really easy. All you need to do is head onto the app and on the homepage you’ll see Spotify Wrapped. You can delve into things deeper and check out your favourite artists or tracks. That’s where you’ll find all of your information about what has been keeping you busy for this past year.
I find it quite funny when people share a Spotify account, purely because their tastes must vary even if it’s only slightly. Imagine having two people on opposite ends of the music world though and their tracks being combined. I guess it’s a game of who uses the account the most. If anything it would tell me I needed my own account. I couldn’t have someone else messing with my stats, that’s no fun, right?
