Meta Verified which was announced earlier this year is being tested across various regions. The subscription bundle includes verification on both Facebook and Instagram.
In February 2023, Meta shared their new concept for verifying accounts. This idea is a subscription based combination including a verified badge for both Instagram and Facebook. A paid product which allows companies and individuals to share their authenticity. Allowing those who visit their page to know they are the official name holder.
Your account will need to be authorised by Meta using your government ID. This is to ensure you are who you say you are. The account holder will have access to account protection and extra support. The following countries are able to apply for Meta Verified; United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India.
If you want to apply, you can sign up through Instagram or Facebook. However, be aware you can only use the Instagram app to apply. There’s also a waiting list for those who aren’t in a region where they can currently apply. Meta have stated there are no changes to accounts which are currently verified.
This is purely a consumer test. To see how people react to the new feature. Meta claim to take on board the opinions of their users and will use feedback to improve their current service. It could be the case all current verified accounts will have to pay to upgrade like those on Twitter do. However, after the backlash of this, it’s hoped Meta won’t follow their lead.
