Video sharing has increased with 82% of 18-44 year olds posting content

With practically everyone online, the use of social media is hotter than ever. There are more and more creators emerging each year. Statistics show that 82% of 18-44 year olds posted a video to at least one platform in the last year.

The modern world is completely digital. Everyone is online in some form. Not only are they online, but they’re active online too. More and more people are taking to social platforms to create content, from posting their own life updates, to creating videos and stills for larger audiences. The music industry is thriving because of it though.

VidCon, an annual event for video sharing platforms have spoken about the increase. Their Californian convention started on the 21st June and prior to that event YouTube took a survey of people who fall into the 18-44 age bracket. Of those spoken to, 82% said they had uploaded a video of some kind within the last 12 months.

This could be across any video platform; Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat or YouTube. That’s a huge statistic, and it’s only likely to grow. It doesn’t mean everyone who fell into the statistic has uploaded a vlog. It could simply be a short video of their pet, but either way they are still uploading video content to social platforms.

Half of that figure described themselves as content creators, with 40% of those asked saying they fell into that category. This shows the digital push we’ve all noticed throughout the years. A huge amount of people are now describing themselves as creators. After all, these statistics only relate to those surveyed through YouTube.

YouTube partnered with Ipsos who are a poll platform. They took information from 25,892 people aged 18 to 44. These individuals asked were from the following regions; US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia and South Korea. Their survey gave a lot of interesting results.

Not only were there huge numbers of people falling into the creator title, but it also showed viewers would rather learn about major media events through video too, rather than being involved in the event themselves. For example, after looking into the results of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, some streamers saw more views than TV stations.

Viewers preferred watching it through live stream where their favourite creators spoke about the football, rather than sitting down and watching the games themselves. It’s possibly down to the following conversation and viewers feeling engaged while they interact. This is great news for content creators though as their careers are only just starting!
