Perhaps you’re a teacher and don’t want students finding you. Or, maybe you just like to keep your circle small. Whatever the reason, we’ll talk you through how to make your Facebook profile unsearchable.
There are so many reasons as to why you might want a closed account. You might not want your information to be public. Or, perhaps you just want complete control over who is on your Facebook profile, and if that’s the case, maybe you want your account to be closed.
Having a closed account simply means, people can’t add you. In fact, they might not even be able to find your profile through searching. But, they definitely can’t send you a friend request. For some, this matters more than you’d think, which is why it’s possible to hide your account.
Decide who can add you as a friend
This option is for those who want to close off their account. If you’re someone who wants to keep your profile locked and private, you won’t want anyone to find and add you. You can still find and add people yourself, providing their account isn’t set up in the same way.
- Head to your profile picture, which can be found in the top-right corner on Facebook.
- Choose the Settings & privacy button.
- Then click Settings.
- Scroll down to Audience and visibility.
- Click How people find and contact you.
- Choose Edit, which can be found next to Who can send you friend requests?
- Choose either Everyone or Friends of friends from the drop-down menu.
Manage who can follow you
Just because you’re friends with a person on Facebook, doesn’t mean they need to follow you. When adding someone, or them adding you, you will automatically follow each other. However, you can change this if you don’t want them appearing in your feed.
- Head to your profile picture, in the top right-hand side of Facebook.
- Click on Settings and privacy
- Select Settings
- Click on Followers and public content which can be found in the left panel.
- Choose Friends or Public in the Who can follow me section.
This easy options allow you to have more control over who sees your content and who has access to your profile. Which, is great for anyone who might want to keep their social channels a little more private. These options can be changed at any time.
