TikTok has joined with music distributors DistroKid to fast-track a process allowing music artists to have their own artist account on TikTok. It will be displayed at the top of their page, so viewers know it’s official.
TikTok and DistroKid have joined up to create a service for music artists. This service will allow musicians to create artist profiles and have them fast-tracked for verification through TikTok. Stopping artists from being impersonated.
The artist accounts will have features to enable these individuals to engage with fans. This integration is the first of its kind and will help artists with their marketing. The partnership should reduce the wait time for artists trying to create their official account.
For DistroKid users, artist accounts should only take a few hours to emerge. Their TikTok account can be made straight from the distributor’s dashboard. Artists will be able to locate Music Tabs, New Releases, By Artist and Behind the Song features.
“TikTok is excited to partner with DistroKid to make it even easier for millions of artists to access powerful and easy-to-use tools to fuel their growth on TikTok” Jay Bae, Global Head of Music Partnership Development at TikTok.
However, while this partnership seems like a great incentive to encourage artists to use both platforms, it does have its drawbacks. There has been a lot of bad press surrounding DistroKid and the way they operate. It seems many artists are facing issues with their music.
More and more artists are coming forward to say the platform, created to distribute music across streaming stores, has instead been removing music without warning. Without letting artists know about any errors, or giving them a chance to rectify these.
Also, there have been concerns previously over payments. Payment history appears to have disappeared which could imply an account ban, but users don’t always seem to be given the answer. It will be interesting to see how this collaboration works out.
