How often is too often? It’s important to find the balance, you don’t want to come across as needy, but being so laid back you’re almost horizontal can make it hard for your fans to keep engaged.
We all want to get our music out there, but remember the saying less is more? An article by Hubspot suggests Instagram accounts with less than 10,000 followers will actually do more harm than good by posting multiple times a day. You may think posting more often will bump you to the top of your followers feed, but your posts may end up getting lost in a sea of other people following the same idea.
Here’s a breakdown of information we’ve found on the best and worst times to post, along with how often you should:
- Aim for at least 3 days a week, with one post each day being the maximum.
- Typically, the best times are between 8:00-9:00 and 17:00-18:00.
- Wednesday is usually the best day to post, with Monday being the one to avoid.
Each account is different and will see traffic vary on different days and times. This guide is a good place to start, but take advantage of Instagram’s analytics feature to see a more in depth analysis of your own account.
- At least 1 post a day, with 2 being your maximum.
- Consider your post lengths, 2 short and sweet ones vs 1 lengthy post, rather than overloading your fanbase with multiple essays as they may decide to just keep scrolling.
- Monday-Friday from 13:00-16:00 appear to be the most successful posting times.
We’re all guilty of taking 5 minutes to break up our day with a quick scroll down Facebook. Or spending our lunch hour seeing what people have been up to lately. This is where you want to make sure you are the first thing they see.
- Around 5 tweets a day if you have something exciting coming up – maybe a new release or tour you’ve announced. Aim for at least 1 to just let people know you’re around.
- Monday-Friday at 12:00-15:00.
- A daily spike at 18:00.
- Avoid 15:00 onwards on a Friday. As people start their weekends, they’re less engaged with the Twitter world.
Twitter almost acts as your public diary, where you’re able to show more of your personality as you engage and communicate with your fans. Keep it fun and interesting, but informative. You can get away with being a little less professional on this platform, as everyone is there to share updates about their day.
🎥 TikTok
- Monday-Sunday, 6:00-9:00 and 19:00 onwards.
- Consider the time-zone that the majority of your fans are based in.
- Avoid posting at the same time each day.
Let’s be real here, people can’t resist flicking through TikTok first thing in the morning with their cup of coffee or late in the evening when they’re relaxing after a long day. TikTok is important to get right because it has taken over, and getting your music shared within this platform can only be a positive thing, right? Music psychologists claim it takes 15-30 seconds for a song to become stuck in your head, so why not utilise this platform?
