Elon Musk has never been one to shy away from drama. However, this time, it seems he’s really caused quite the stir. Since taking over Twitter he’s made so many changes it’s hard to keep up. So, we’re here to summarise what’s been happening.
Twitter previously let half of the platform’s staff go with no warning. Elon Musk took to the CEO thrown and decided to fire the majority of his workforce. But, he didn’t stop with one set of dismissals. No, he continued and cut off as many as 5,500 additional contract employees. None of which were even given a goodbye.
It seems Elon won’t stop there. He is going to continue to fire anyone who even breathes a word against him. Both on Twitter, or on the company’s private Slack account. But, now things have taken a step-up. Rather than Elon doing the firing, now it seems staff are deciding to walk. Hundreds of employees have now resigned.
Elon Musk has been working hard to completely change the Twitter platform. Ahead of his extreme hardcore reset of the company, and it’s culture, many employees took it upon themselves to walk. It seems not everyone is impressed with the changes planned. Just one of which being workers must commit to long and hard hours.
Employees had a deadline. Within this time, they had to reply to a Google form. The form asked if employees would stay for Twitter 2.0. By this he meant, if they agreed to continue to work for Twitter under his new harsh measures. Any who didn’t respond or didn’t agree with the new outlines were then told it would be their final day.
Many of the workforce took to the company’s Slack channels posting goodbye messages upon the deadline. One employee stated “my watch ends with Twitter 1.0. I do not wish to be part of Twitter 2.0”. The platform only has 2,900 remaining employees prior to the deadline. This was after Musk cut 7,500 jobs previously.
In all honesty, it seems like Elon Musk just simply doesn’t care. He hasn’t once been concerned how the company will hold up without most of its support. Instead, he has adopted the attitude of anyone who leaves the company isn’t of value. Which, is extremely worrying because there’s no loyalty to his staff. Could this be the end of Twitter as we know it?
